In May 1941, Dr. Walter Siemsen moved his pediatric practice from Chicago to Kalamazoo. He was called to service in World War II in October and his practice was suspended until 1946. When he returned, he opened an office in the American National Bank Building in downtown Kalamazoo. Dr. Ed Dozema joined Dr. Siemsen in 1947 and they moved to the west wing of the new Bronson building, suite 315. They practiced together until Dr. Siemsens death in 1955.
Dr. J. Donald Hare joined the practice in 1957, as did Dr. Richard Merriman in 1965. One month after Dr. Merriman joined, Dr. Dozema left the practice to enter psychiatry. Thus, Dr. Hare and Dr. Merriman were partners when the practice moved from a site on Whites Road to the Trestlewood building in 1982.
Dr. Robert Page joined in 1987, Dr. Stephanie Somers in 1997, Dr. Anthony Van Es in 2000 and Dr. Gail Brown in 2001. Dr. Merriman retired in June of 2000 after 35 years of practicing pediatrics in Kalamazoo. Today, the practice continues in the Trestlewood office site.
